Birth control, missed period, and one fallopian tube.

At the beginning of December 2010 I started taking Loestrin bcp to help prevent cysts. During the second week, I missed three pills. I know that if you miss more than two pills, you're supposed to throw the rest of your pack away and start another or something to the effect, but because I didn't have insurance at the time it would have been expensive (and I wasn't taking the pills to prevent pregnancy, exactly) so I decided to keep taking pills from the pack I had. I had unprotected sex on the third day of missed pills and didn't take Plan B. About a week before my period was due I had a little spotting for a day or so. I then totally missed my period when I was taking the inactive pills. Even with cysts and all that, my period has NEVER been a day late or early, lighter or heavier, or different in any way at all. Since my missed period, I've had some light cramping but no bleeding. Is this normal???

Also, I only have one fallopian tube. I was wondering if an egg released from the ovary with no accompanying fallopian tube can float over to the other side and still become fertilized.
Sorry for the extremely long question! And thank you for your time!

Hi Anonymous,
Thank you for your question and for finding EmpowHER. hmmmmm...is right. First things first, have you taken a pregnancy test? That would be the surest way of knowing if you are pregnant or not. You may want to give your doctor or clinic a call and tell them what happened. They are most familiar with your personal health history and could best advise you on what to do next.
In the future, try to be extra diligent about taking your pills regularly. And you also may want to use a backup method of birth control (condom, spermicide or withdrawal method), especially in case you forget to take your pill, so you can avoid any anxiety about getting pregnant.
Good luck! And let us know what you find out and how you are doing.

And an increase in discharge that has me running to the bathroom thinking my period is here (and feeling quite gross). Hmmm...
