Hi there. I have been dealing with an irregular period for about a year and a half now. I generally get my period every 28 to 30 days. I also have dark brown spotting for about 5 days before my period comes. The first day of my last period was October 30th and lasted five days. I have had unprotected sex with my bf and don't remember the exact dates but I know one of them was on the 10th. Today I noticed a pretty good amount of blood when I went to the bathroom. Almost so much I thought about using a tampon. This is unusual for me because I usually just get light spotting before my period. I guess I should also say I have been on a diet for the last month and a half and have been exercising and losing a good amount of weight. Could that be the cause?

Weight loss and increased exercise could be responsible for the change in your normal menstrual cycle. If your periods continue to be irregular, you should consider making an appointment with your gynecologist. Take that opportunity to discuss birth control and choose the option that is right for you.
