I got a little paranoid (even though I think he did not came inside me) and took the next choice pill the next day.. followed all the instructions. but now, six days later i am bleeding seems like a menstruation. What is this? is this going to be menstruation for the month of November? My next due date is 21/22. Am I going to get my period by then? I am kind of freaking out. help please.

I see that on other websites that people are having the same issues just like i am. I think it's my period back to back times just so i don't get pregnant. My other question is that right by my abs it kinda hurts and my one friend said that it could be because i may be pregnant but, i really doubt it. People keep saying different things that are making me super nervous. Thank you so much for your help. Hope you can keep helping me. :]

Hi Miranda,
If you are really concerned, you can schedule an appointment with your doctor to get checked out. If you go three months without a period, the doctor would want to see you anyway. But since it hasn't been that long, it is up to you. If pregnancy tests are showing up negative, take heart, you likely are not pregnant. Try to reduce your stress as much as you can, as that also can affect your period in the same way as changing your diet, over-exercising, and being sick can too. In the future, be sure to practice safe sex, so you will be protected from pregnancy and won't need to worry.
Take care,
Christine

Hi Miranda,
Please read that article I posted right above your comment. Your answer should be in there. But let me explain first that taking emergency contraception is known to possibly alter your menstrual cycle. The way it works is by thinning the lining on your uterus, and making the area uninhabitable for an egg to implant. So this may explain why you had bleeding again after taking the emergency contraception. Again, read the article so you know what to expect. If you have more questions afterward, let us know. We're here to help with research, and supporting you in advocating for your health.
Take care,
Christine

i've been wondering the same thing. my period ended April 28th and i had unprotected sex April 29th and my bf said he did not ejaculate inside of me. but just to be on the safe side, i went out and got Next Choice within 24 hours. (April 30th) the next day, (May 1st) i noticed some bleeding, but very light. and then today, (May 5th) i noticed a brown discharge. and then by the end of the day, it turned into bleeding.
do you think i am pregnant?

Hi Anonymous,
You likely are not pregnant, although you will need to wait until your next period to verify for sure. Make sure to not put yourself at any further risk until then. Taking NextChoice is known to have this side effect, just as you described.
For more information, please review this article: Emergency Contraception Update, 2010.

So if bleeding is a sign of not being pregnant, is not bleeding a sign of being pregnant?

I've taken the Next Choice pill in the past and had spotting about a week later. I took it again a few weeks ago and there hasn't been any spotting at all; is this a bad sign?

Hi,
There are different types of bleeding. When a woman has her regularly expected menstrual period, this indicates she is not pregnant. (Some women may experience some bleeding during pregnancy, but this is different than a regular menstrual period).

A woman who does not experience her regular menstrual period when expected could either be pregnant, have an underlying medical condition.. or just miss a period. It is not typically cause for concern if a woman missed a period (even two) when she is certain there is no risk for pregnancy.

The emergency contraception pills may or may not cause spotting or breakthrough bleeding (another type of bleeding, just defined by bleeding in-between periods). Emergency contraception can also cause a menstrual period to be delayed by a week, or to begin a week earlier than expected.

Please know that emergency contraception is only about 80% effective at preventing pregnancy, compared to a condom or hormonal birth control (at 98%-99% effectiveness rate). This is a big difference if you are wanting to prevent pregnancy, and since you are using the emergency contraception pill frequently, please let us know if you have any questions about birth control that is much more reliable and effective.

HELP HELP HELP!
My boyfriend and I had sex the last day of my period, April 10 and it was very light and I took Next Choice right after. Six days past and then in the afternoon on April 15 I start spotting, well today is April 17 and this spotting has been on and off the past 2 days but it looks as if I am having an extremely light period. Is this normal and how long will this last? Also will this delay my next period because I am bleeding now?

Hi anonymous,
In addition to Rosa's great advice, please review this article. It may explain what to expect, in case you didn't check out the package insert that came with the Next Choice pill:
