So, I had sex right after my period ended (oct 30) and it was unprotected. I got a little paranoid (even though I think he did not came inside me) and took the next choice pill the next day.. followed all the instructions. but now, six days later i am bleeding seems like a menstruation. What is this? is this going to be menstruation for the month of November? My next due date is 21/22. Am I going to get my period by then? I am kind of freaking out. help please.

Spotting and an irregular period are side effects of Next Choice. Your next period may come at it's expected date or a few days before/after.

OMG I am so happy I read all this. I took next choice and I just started spotting 6 days after taking it and I was very worried. To know I am not the only one experiencing this is so comforting. Now I unfortunately need to wait for my next period ugh. I never want to go through this much worry ever again!

Dear Anon,

Spotting, Nausea, and Dizziness are all common side effects of Next Choice. However, if your period is more than one week late you should test for pregnancy.

Hello everyone...I have a scenario/ question similar to the two woman that have been posting regarding their periods. I started period January 25/26 and it ended on Sunday, January 30th. My bf and I had unprotected sex on February 3rd (He came inside of me). The incident took place at 4:30p.m. and I took the Next Choice pill by 10:30p.m. that same day and took the 2nd pill 12 hours later. I know I am in the "ovulation" phase, but can someone please provide me with some information/comfort around my situation. Also, if a woman has a regular period, does she usually ovulate around the same time every month? I'm trying to establish if ovulation happens later in the 14 days of ovulation, in the middle or early on...Please help me! Thank You

Anon,

If your period started on the 25th of January and you have a regular, 28 day cycle, then you are probably not yet ovulating. Every woman is different but ovulation will likely occur 14 days after the start of your period (again, if you're on a 28 day cycle). I'm not quite sure what you mean by "14 days of ovulation" -- we do not ovulate for 14 days.

If you took Next Choice as directed, it is very effective but remember to use a condom or another form of birth control next time!

Best Wishes!

hi. i got my period on january 9th and it ended the 15th.
my boyfriend and i had sex on the 16th but the condom broke. we both got really freaked out so on the 17th, i took next choice. on the 21st i started bleeding and now it's the 23rd and i'm still bleeding. i think it's spotting - i'm pretty sure it's not my period cause it's not nearly as heavy as a normal period, although i am getting stomach cramps (though that may just be a coincidence). anyway, i was wondering if this bleeding means that i'm not pregnant and that i'll get my period soon or if it's just side effects of the pill that i'd get regardless if i actually am pregnant or not. all answers much appreciated, thank you!

Hi Anonymous,
What you are experiencing is normal for taking next choice. For more information please thoughtfully read the following article so you will know what to expect going forward:
Emergency Contraception Update, 2010.
If you still have questions afterward, let us know. In the meantime, here also is an article about condom use and how to avoid mishaps with this form of birth control: Help! The Condom Broke During Sex: How to Prevent "Wardrobe Malfunctions".
