I got a little paranoid (even though I think he did not came inside me) and took the next choice pill the next day.. followed all the instructions. but now, six days later i am bleeding seems like a menstruation. What is this? is this going to be menstruation for the month of November? My next due date is 21/22. Am I going to get my period by then? I am kind of freaking out. help please.

Hi Anon,

You should expect your period around July 18. If it is more than 1 week late, you may test for pregnancy. Keep in mind, however, that Next Choice can cause a change in your period and it may take a little longer to come back to normal.

Best Wishes,

Rosa

Hi Anon,

When were you expecting your period this month? Since today is the 17th, that would make it 30 days from your LMP. Most cycles range from around 28-35 days. If you are 100% positive about your period dates and you have a cycle that is 28 days, then you can test for pregnancy. A store bought test will indicate if you are pregnant or not.

Well, you are suppose to take the first Next Choice pill within 72 hours of having unprotected sex, sexual attack or a known or suspected contraceptive failure. The second pill should be taken 12 hours after taking the first pill. Usually, Next Choice is taken after the sexual act, not before. I guess you should be protected against getting pregnant because you gave your body a double dose of hormones. You will probably notice some significant changes in your menstrual cycle for the next few months.

Hi

So I went to walgreens today and the pharmacist suggested I buy next choice rather than plan b because it was cheaper. She told me to take both bills together but when I got hone I noticed the box says 12 hrs apart. I already took both pills immediately after I bought the pills. I had unprotected sex 8 hrs go. Will I be ok? Thanks

Hi Everyone, im kind of worry right now because i took next choice on June 15th, five days after my period was over. A week later on the 21st i started bleeding/spotting it was like the beggining of a period but not heavy bleeding. Today July 3rd almost two weeks after i started bleeding im still spotting a brow/ redish discharge and sometines like tiny little pieces of bood clots like very small. Could this be something serious? i was supposed to get my period on July 2nd(yesterday) but ive been bleeding/spotting for the past 2 weeks! am i still going to get it? thank you so much

Hi Anon,

Don't know if you have read our previous comments on other posts in this thread, but irregular bleeding/spotting after taking Next Choice is normal. Hopefully you'll resume your regular period soon but the irregular periods you've been experiencing are nothing to be alarmed about.

Good Luck,

Rosa

Hi,
I read your story. You took Next Choice correctly. Emergency contraception contain a higher dose of hormones, which are found in birth control pills. Changes in your menstrual cycle are a side effect of the pill.
It may take a month or more to get back to a normal menstrual cycle, especially since you are so young. You need to start keeping track of when you get your periods. Get a calendar and mark the day your period starts. In several months time, you will see a pattern develop.
You are only 15 years old. I am speaking to you now, as a mother. I have 3 children and my youngest will be 16 years old in a few days. You are sexually active but are not using birth control, except for condoms. Using condoms is smart, but as you now know, they break. Pregnancy is consequence of being sexually active. If you feel that your are really ready to be sexually active, you need to seriously consider a more effective form of birth control.

I have a heavy flow of bleeding but I'm not suppose to start my period 2 weeks before. It's been 3 days and I'm scared to be pregnant. I'm so stressed. My story is on the previous page, last comment.

Hi,
I don't think you could be pregnant. Your last period ended on June 22 and the "contraceptive failure" (broken condom), there is no way that you ovulated in 2 days. Ovulation, which is the release of an egg from an ovary, usually occurs about mid-cycle or 14 days before the next period. Taking the emergency contraption definitely would prevent pregnancy. Next Choice contains a higher amount of the same hormone found in birth control pills. Changes in the menstrual cycle is just one side effect. You will need to give your body time to get back to normal.
