Has anyone heard of using something called blood root for skin tags? Does it work? Where can I find it?

Section: who tends to get skin tags

Nearly half of the population is reported to have skin tags at some time. Although tags are generally acquired (not present at birth) and may occur in anyone, more often they arise in adulthood. They are much more common in middle age and they tend to increase in prevalence up to age 60. Children and toddlers may also develop skin tags in the underarm and neck areas. Since they are thought to arise more readily in areas of skin friction or rubbing, tags are also more common in overweight people.

Not something "who ever thinks," but from research.

Sorry to hear you have such a high number of them.

At what age did the skin tags really start to appear in people that are covered?

Who ever thinks that skin tags are from being over weight is incorrect. Skin tags are somewhat related to the Human Papilloma virus. Possibly some type of wart. Our Doctors do not even know the answer. Yes they can appear from moist hot areas that rub, ie over weight people. I have an excessive amount of skin tags, we are talking about HUNDREDS. The derms dont why, they even took pictures for their records. I actually had surgery to remove a 8"x8" section of skin, excessive scar tissue from having them cut off for years. I know the doctors dont like us to cut things off our body, most people do not sterlize the equipment correctly, getting infections and so on. Buy a pair of "iris" scissors, clean area and cutter with alcohol and cut off. The string thing is painful

During and after my pregnancy, I had a few strange new appearances on my skin...and they were apparently skin tags (never knew the name until now!). The mere presence of them bothered me, because I kept thinking that I had a mole or freckle and it would startle me, but they were just a tiny piece of skin barely hanging on.

I am embarrassed to say, but I picked at mine until it was gone (talk about gross!). Next time, I will try the thread route!

I had never heard the term, so I was also curious about them. Oddly enough, I had one years ago, don't know why, and I don't remember how I got rid of it (wasn't by applying blood root, though).

Skin tags, "acrochordons," are benign "polyps" that form, it is believed, from friction, are connected to the skin by a very thin "stalk," and are, apparently, often found on overweight people.

I have had a problem with skin tags since I was in my twenties and I was not overweight. I think it is just something hereditary and in your system. They are certainly a pain.

was that skin tags were often found on overweight persons. It did not say that skin tags were found on all overweight persons, or that you had to be overweight to have them. I'm a bit overweight and I don't have them, either.

If you have or have had this condition and have found a solution, great - please share it!

Having worked for a dermatologist, I can tell you skin tags are a part of aging. Also necklaces also contribute to the growth of skin tags. The Derm I worked for always told his patients that thread was the skin tag wonder drug. Simply tie it off with white thread and it will come off after a few days.

Personally, whenever I develop a skin tag, that is exactly what I do. It's safe, the worst of pain is a slight pinch and within a couple of days voila, they are gone.

Honestly I have never heard of blood root, and I have to tell you the name alone is scary and yucky sounding.

Hope this helps

Liz,

Unfortunately, the method you spoke of actually just takes care of the problem from the surface whereas on the cellular level cells are being off balance in that they are forming tumors, cancer, warts, any growths, i.e. skin tags. This exactly tells us that something is really going on on the cellular level and it definitely needs to be addressed before it turns into something much bigger and more serious years later on. A real skilled naturopath doctor can help with pinpointing the underlying issue.

Penny,

About 5 months ago I was diagnosed with a heart condition and placed on medication. Since I started taking the meds I've started getting skin tags. It's the most bizarre thing really because I've never had anything like that before.

Ironically, (Maybe not) my step-dad is on the same drugs as me and he is covered with skin tags.

I'm researching this because there's got to be some connection.
