I had 27 radiation treatments. It has now been 3 months after my treatments ended. I can have 4 or more bms a day..completely normal or my stool can be extremely loose. For the past two days I have passed a thick orange looking stool..not very much but its not normal looking. When I voice concerns to my doctors they tell me radiation tore up my colon and this is common. I don't believe this is normal.

Hello Anon
Thank you for writing.
Unfortunately, diarrhea is one of the most common side effects of radiation therapy to the pelvis.
A low fiber diet is recommended as well as an over-the-counter anti-diarrheal like Immodium. These side effects can take several months to clear up.
Orange stool can be due to the foods we eat, supplements or medications. Long term orange stool could be due to gallstones.
