Q:

Does 3 days of withdrawal bleeding/menstruation mean she's not pregnant?

We had sex 2 - 3 weeks after her last menstruation and she had them irregularly. She took Nordette as ECP 18 hours after. 6 days after the dose, she bled heavily lasting for 3 days. She also had abdominal pains then and she said it was just like her period. I'm not sure exactly if it is her period or just the withdrawal bleeding.

Was that a sign that she's not pregnant?

Hi! My bf and I had sex last Sept 26 2015. He ejaculated outside my vagina but it was so near that I panicked. So I took nordette last Sept 28 just to be sure. I didn't feel nauseous or anything, but hours before I was about to take my 2nd dose, I felt nauseous/light headed. I also vomited on the 2nd or 3rd day (im not really sure). Then there's vaginal discharge that look like milky white and watery at the same time. Then after 10 days after taking nordette, I had a very light bleeding, like a drop of blood (brown) until today.
Is it normal that it took 10 days for me to bleed? Am I pregnant?

btw, my period started around 2nd week of September, Sept 14 or 15, tho im not really sure.

Hello Anonymous,

This is bleeding caused by taking an emergency contraceptive. It means the pill worked and she is not pregnant.

Please help! I had a normal period September 11th through September 15th. On the 18th my boyfriend and I were intimate and the condom fell off at some point, we decided it would be best for me to take plan b the next morning. While I am over 165lbs I believe the pill to have worked because as of September 25th I began what seems to be a normal period. Traditional bleeding and cramps. Nothing abnormal aside from the fact that it's super early (2 weeks) My typical cycle is about 28-31 days. Today is September 27th, this morning (on day 3 of this plan b induced period, significant bleeding) we had unprotected sex and he ended up ejaculating in me. What are the risks of getting pregnant? Should I take plan b again? I'd really like to avoid if at all possible. I'm not ready for a baby. The reason I am not on traditional birth control is due to the fact that my blood pressure is borderline high and I am only 28. Please advise.

Hello Anonymous,

The bleeding which started on September 25 was caused by taking Plan B and indicted the pill worked to prevent pregnancy.

If you are still bleeding, then you could not have conceived by having unprotected intercourse. Do not take another dose of an emergency contraceptive.

Hello, this page is really helpful. I could really use some help right now as I'm getting really paranoid about my situation.

So I have been doing the deed every weekend this month. But last September 19, he ejaculated inside me. At first I was thinking it's okay since it was 3 days before my supposed to be period but got paranoid so decided to drink ECP after 48 hours, a day before my actual period. The next day, I didn't get my period and it has been 3 days and still no signs of bleeding. I took PT already, everyday since I last missed my period and the results are always negative. On the 4th day of my delayed period, I finally get a brown spotting of blood but it stopped after a few hours. Is it possible that this is the withdrawal bleeding and confirming that I'm not pregnant? Or should I get paranoid if this is implantation bleeding? Am I gonna get my period still but only delayed because of the pills? Please help me. Thank you

Hello Anonymous,

An emergency contraceptive contains a high dose of a synthetic hormone, that prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation.
Your menstrual cycle is regulated by a precise balance of hormones.
By taking the pill just days before your period was due to start upset the balance.

That is probably why your period was delayed. Brown spotting indicates old blood, probably left over from your last period.

If you do not get your period in the next two weeks, please consult your gynecologist, who can order blood tests to check your hormone levels.

Maryann

Hello Anonymous,

No, This is withdrawal bleeding caused by taking an emergency contraceptive pill.

Please start using a reliable type of birth control. An ECP is not intended to be used in place of an oral contraceptive and the withdrawal method is not reliable.

Maryann
