I have right nephroptosis, first surgery in 2003 worked great, but kidney fell again in 08, surgery again, kidney fell again 6 months later, now the doctors dont know what to do. Have right flank pain 24/7 and am on fentanyl patch. There don't seem to be any good options and it is difficult to find a urologist who has actually dealt with this condition.

Yes please keep me updated. I wish the best of luck to you for your surgery. I am curious as to the procedure they are going to perform to secure your kidney. My ultrasound showed my kidney in my abdomen. I also had an endoscopy done last Friday and that showed thy I have a very large hiatal hernia that is not in a normal position. I'm told that this type of hernia are normally above the diaphragm and mine is below right above my stomach pushing down on my stomach which could also be causing my nausea. So looks like we are going to have to coordinate both surgeries my doctor said it makes the most sense to do the hernia and kidney at the same time. good lick to you and please keep me posted

Thank you. Good luck for you too with your surgery.
September 27, 2012 - 4:12amMine is planned in 5 days from now and its going to be an open surgey: subcostale lumbotomie. I understand that this is the best surgery for longterm results- as in that the kidney will stay up.
All the best, God bless.

I found out I had a floating kidney after my 1st pregnancy. I have had 2 children since with no complications. The pain completely disappeared and had no effect on the labour. This is because the kidney was pushed back up into its original position as the baby grew. Only thing is to make sure that all health carers that are involved in your pregnancy are aware because in the event of a c-section being needed, they need to know because your ureter may be lying anteriorly instead of the normal posterior position. The last thing you want is to have your ureter cut during surgery.

Thank you so much I have been going mad waiting for my appointment and there is little information on floating kidney and pregnancy so have Been worried about it being stuck did u have more scans or more appointments to see if the kidney was ok throughout the pregnancy?

No I had no extra scans as most involve x-rays. I had a ureteric stent removed during one of my pregnancies and that had no effect on the pregnancy or baby. I was under a gynae consultant rather that a midwife lead team, just so they could keep a closer eye on things. But otherwise it was as natural and enjoyable as my previous pregnancy. Good luck!

hi,
October 19, 2011 - 8:14pmi have a question for you:
can you feel your descended kidney in your front abdomen when you stand up ?
i mean is there a hard thing that you can push around ?
i have something that sounds like a descending kidney and is causing mild pain and has been for about a year, but no on knows what it is and MRI was normal but like you said, you are lying down for that...
and how are you doing now?? was the labour OK ?

I'm worries about what will happen through the pregnancy ? Will this mean a c section? I have two young children age 3 and 2 then after found out I had this floating kidney Which I can constantly feel . Just worried as I went for my booking appointment yesterday and the lady I saw said I needed to see this specialist but it's two weeks time just wondering if anybody had been pregnant with a floating kidney and what happened
