Donating Hair: Locks of Love vs. Pantene Pro-V Beautiful Lengths

For so long I have been frustrated with the inability to grow my hair out. About 6 months ago I came across Pantene Pro-V's new product, Beautiful Lengths lengthening shampoo and conditioner. I figured it probably would not work but I have liked their products in the past so I bought it anyway. About 4 months after using the shampoo and conditioner my hair began to grow like a weed! Now, 6 months later my hair is 2 feet and some odd inches long.

I would love to donate my hair soon, but I am having trouble deciding between the Locks of Love and Pantene's Beautiful Length's program. I was wondering if anyone can give me some insight or advice on which to choose and why.

This was definitely the most informed and helpful post I have read so far. My daughter is donating her hair in the next week or so and it is very useful for us to more fully understand the differences in these organizations -- BOTH of which sound extremely worthy. Inspiring me to try to grow my hair, although I am not sure I could do the 10 inches required by Locks of Love :-). I think anyone could feel happy about donating to either of these charities.

After reading all the responses to the question "Which is better Locks of Love or Pantiene's Beautiful Lengths?" I think this is the most thorough and complete answer.

Thank you very much I also heard about the sales aspect of the wigs available from Locks of Love but did not realize that they were sports wigs. I know real hair wigs are expensive and hard to make I can only imagine how much more expensive sport wigs must be on top of that. Take in to account that the people who actually make the wigs need to be paid I think if a family can afford to pay for the wigs then they should be made to, I hope the sliding scale goes all the way down to zero dollars to take in to account families who truly cannot afford the cost. I think a sport wig for a child is more important than a cosmetic wig for someone who has only lost their hair temporarily.

Also I think every woman should shave their head completely at some point to mark entering adulthood, or what ever they want to mark, it's good for the soul, but that's my personal opinion. I've done it and LOVED being bald and plan to do it again at some point but this time I'll donate my hair. (I couldn't last time because I was shaving off 8yr old Dreadlocks)

Thanks again.

Any charity organization is worth while and anyone who has the hair to donate is gracious. There are so many children that lost their hair due to cancers and so forth that it is heartfelt.

I dontated my hair to Beautiful Lengths over a year and i half ago when i was about 13, i loved it because the wigs are free to cancer patients and it allowed a minimal of 8 inches while others require 12 inches.

i also liked the fact that they sent me a letter stating that they recieved my donation =]
so i reccomend Beautiful Lengths!

I have personaly have dontaed my hair to locks of love and know that its a great charity. Once again I am growing my hair out to donate and this time I'm thinking of donateing it to pantene simply for the reason that while locks of love requires people to pay for the wigs pantene gives them away

Locks of Love is for children's wigs and Beautiful Lengths is for women. I'm doing Beautiful Lengths because my mom had breast cancer, and two grandmothers lost hair with lung cancer treatments. My mom got to keep her hair, but not everybody does, so that's why I'm choosing Beautiful Lengths. Hope this is helpful for you :)

Thank you for pointing out the differences!

How is your mom recovering from breast cancer?
