Donating Hair: Locks of Love vs. Pantene Pro-V Beautiful Lengths

For so long I have been frustrated with the inability to grow my hair out. About 6 months ago I came across Pantene Pro-V's new product, Beautiful Lengths lengthening shampoo and conditioner. I figured it probably would not work but I have liked their products in the past so I bought it anyway. About 4 months after using the shampoo and conditioner my hair began to grow like a weed! Now, 6 months later my hair is 2 feet and some odd inches long.

I would love to donate my hair soon, but I am having trouble deciding between the Locks of Love and Pantene's Beautiful Length's program. I was wondering if anyone can give me some insight or advice on which to choose and why.

Well I did the Pantene one last year and they sent me a letter saying they were thankful for my 8 inches of hair. Contrast to my friends who have done locks of love they had to give 10 inches.

Don't do LoL. Do Pantene's. I have personally donated to both of these, and I found out the Pantene donates the wigs for free to the cancer patients, but LoL does not. They sell them to the families, and sometimes they even sell the hair that is donated to people that don't have cancer. I hate it, they have such a great idea, but they're not carrying through with it.

I would go with Locks of Love. They are more flexible with the types of hair they accept. If the hair is unusable, they sell it to help with other costs. Also you can donate colored, gray, or permed hair. Pantene only accepts natural hair. Locks of Love needs at least 10 inches, while Pantene needs at least 8. I'm getting ready to donate my hair to LoL because I have colored hair.

I donated my hair to locks of love once and I never heard from them. I heard you were supposed to get a confirmation letter that they got your hair but that never happened. Being a red head I was offended! Did they just throw away my perfectly good red hair? I'm going to donate my hair again and now I know for sure I'm going to donate to Pantene!! I wish I would've known before!

Um what is this product made of? And do the chemicals that make hair grow like a weed cause cancer? Makes you think.

I just donated my hair today (two braids of 12'' each). I went in initially of donating to 'Locks of Love' but the hair dresser told me about the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program. Locks of Love will throw out your hair if it doesn't use it all, while Pantene will use it all. Additionally, Locks of Love sells the wigs and the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program donates all the wigs. BL uses all hair donations in some way and they never sell a donation for profit. Also their wigs go to women who are cancer patients/survivors.
However, the donation is free through the salon-there was a charge for the cut and style.

I have donated to both in the past, and BL has notified me of thanks and acknowledged the hair was usuable and will make a "free" wig for someone. Locs of love charges depending on income of the needed family. I think its horrible to have to go through something that takes away part of who you are and then submit a financial form to get a wig to feel better about yourself. I just just cut my hair for the 3rd donation 14" and BL is getting it. I have lost family to cancer and hv memebers fighting, One of the largest impacts on your esteem is your hairloss. U hv no clue how much it effects you unless it happens. I'm glad their are companies and programs out there like these two, but I'm not doing it to make a profit, I do it becuase I hv witnessed the sorrow of losing hair from family members and I'm in a position to help others, "for free".

Donating your hair is a wonderful thing and each organization will help provide wigs to those who desire them. One organization I like to support is 'Wigs for Kids'. They too are a non-for-profit hair donation organization. They use donated hair to make wigs for children in needs (cancer kids, burn victims, etc). The wigs typically cost a few thousand dollars but this organization does not sell them to the children they donated them to the kid in needs. Check out Wigs For Kids if you are interested in knowing of another hair donation program.
