feels like I'm on period but not bleeding

I've always had very irregular periods I'm 20 years old,
My last three periods were as close together as they ever been (they were a month apart)so it started seeming like they were starting to regulate, we'll exactly a month from my last normal period it was just spotting and now (a month from when I spotted) it feels like I'm on my period and I'm not bleeding. According to my period tracker (Wich I started when I thought my periods were regulating) it's saying I'm 21 days late and that I should be starting in 2 weeks. I'm just confused because I never feel like this unless I'm on my period and I'm not and all the changes with my menstruation is kind of freaking me out. I need advice!!

Hello Anonymous,

It could be. If you do not have any bleeding within the next week or so, test for pregnancy.

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for reaching out to us to help you with your concern.

Menstrual periods are often irregular during the first few years after menstruation starts.

Anonymous, when did you get your very first period? Do you have any other medical conditions, such as irritable bowel syndrome? Any medical condition that can cause a lot of stress can also cause irregular menstrual cycles.

Have you discussed your history of irregular periods with your physician or a gynecologist? Some women are prescribed an oral contraceptive to help regulate their periods. This is something you might want to consider.

Maryann

Well I started my first period when I was 11 and usually got my periods every 3-5 months after that. And last time I went to my obgyn and told him about my irregular periods he suggested birth control and I tried it for like a week but quit taking them because my hormones were going crazy..and my husband couldn't take it no more lol. I also got my thyroid checked because hypothyroidism runs in my family and I have a difficult time gaining weight I'm 4"11 and 98 lbs so I don't believe I'm under weight.. anyways the thyroid results came back normal. I haven't gone to see my obgyn since.

Hello Anonymous,

Thank you for the added information. It is helpful.

We can rule out hypothyroidism and being in the early years of menstruation as causes. It may be time to give your ob/gyn a call.

Have you had unprotected sex since your last normal period?

You could always take a home pregnancy .
