Hardening of the reproductive system and fused to portion of the bowel?

I have recently been in and out of hospital since August 2011, I had an ablation preformed on my uterus aug 11, 2011, I ended up with Uterus infection, blood infection, and ecoli and was treated. In November I ended back in hospital with an absess that was drained with over 1/2 cup of puss, which was later confirmed containing ecoli. The beginning of December I went back to hospital, the absess was still present. Partial colonoscopy and laprascopy done with another drain of the remaining absess that had chambers and a cyst on my ovary left side.

I am wondering if the ablation could have hardened my reproductive system? If the infection is not gone I know a full out hystorecomy is my final option? If the infection has gone, how will a fused reproductive system attached to the bowel affect me long term?

I'm hoping someone might know something about this.

I understand how you feel.

Now, I understand what you are describing--adhesions. An adhesion is a band of scar tissue that binds two parts of tissue or organs together.

The tissue develops when the body's repair mechanisms respond to any tissue disturbance, such as surgery, infection, trauma, or radiation.

Pelvic adhesions may involve any organ within the pelvis, such as the uterus, ovaries, Fallopian tubes or bladder and usually occur after surgery such as after a hysterectomy. Pelvic inflammatory disease (PID) which results from an infection, usually a sexually transmitted disease, frequently leads to adhesions in and around the Fallopian tubes.

Adhesions develop as the body attempts to repair itself. This normal response can occur after surgery, infection, trauma or radiation.

Hi Maryann,

Yes this is very helpful. Thank you very much, it would make sense to what I have been going thru.

I have several questions I've put together for my doctors appointment tomorrow, I'm hoping to get some answers and further clarification on recovery ect.

Why do you think that your uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes, which are the female reproductive organs, have become attached to your intestines?

I don't understand what you mean by hardening? Could you please explain.

Whether or not you will need to undergo a hysterectomy is a matter to be determined by your physician. I strongly suggest that you schedule an appointment with your doctor. Your physician is the best person to explain to you exactly what is happening in your body, what the treatment options are and what the long term prognosis is.

Hi Maryann,

Thanks for getting back to me. The last surgery I had was Dec 15 which was a laperoscopy to see what was going on, they drained the cyst on the left ovary and hopefully the remainder of the absess that was on my left fallopian tube. When they were in the Doctor said it was like someone had poured concrete over my reproductive system and there was a part attached to the bowel.

I have recently had a follow up ultrasound and have an appointment with my dr tomorrow to see if all infection has been cleared or if a full out hystorectomy is required.

I guess I'm just trying to find out as much as I possibly can regarding this situation.

How it could have happened, I have not seen anything on any of the ablation forums and sites that I have looked into. I had the ablation done because of continuous spotting in addition to my monthly periods. Never had any cramping just always bleeding. The dr felt ablation was less evasive than a partial hystorecomy at that time.

If the infection and absess is gone, the doctor does not feel a hystorectomy will be necessary. How will this condition affect me physically and if it will affect me sexually?

I am trying to write down questions in which to ask the dr. I have felt that the dr has been grasping at straws for possible causes and I just want my body to be healthy again.
