Yes, hepatitis C is treatable. The goals of treatment are to remove the virus from the remove the virus from the blood and reduce the risk of cirrhosis and liver cancer that can result from long-term hepatitis C infection.

The most common medications are a combination of pegylated interferon alfa and ribavirin. New medications include boceprivir and teleprivir, which are protease inhibitors. These drugs improve the outcome of treatment from about 40% to greater than 85%.
