how do I know when pityriasis rosea is healing?

I was diagnosed with pityriasis rosea almost 6 weeks ago. Apparently it takes 6-8 weeks to disappear, but I keep finding new spots every time I shower, new red spots seem to pop up. The first ones I got seem to keep changing. Does anyone know what these spots are meant to look like before they just disappear?

I have had it for 6 months and I am miserable. I was diagnosed early and it was confirmed. I was unable to take the steroid because my blood pressure was up. I still see new ones every day. I am 33... i am to old for this :~((

It will start to fade spontaneously... and you probably won't even realize it at first. New ones can pop up even as they start to fade... but it won't take as long for the new ones to fade away. Just gotta make sure you're not scratching them or letting your body get too hot. PR loves and thrives in heat... get sun everyday to help with the fading.

Like the above person mine are rashy also so it looks like I have acne all over also but does the duration last longer because the new bumps are still appearing? i have it on the top of my feet and Im seeing some starting to get dark but a lot of them look like acne red bumps also. real ugly... since I have the inverse im thinking that it will still get to my face and thats the worse feeling. its been 6weeks and havent seen anything on my face yet do you think it may be to late and its only going to go where it presently at now?

This is really driving me crazy I just found a mark on my back and my hands look like they are 80yrs old with the rash its very depressing especially with me having dark skin. The spots look like i am burnt once they heal but it does peel away and goes back to my complexion my PR is more Rashy then anything I keep seeing red spots all over Im so scared its going to get on my face. Im scared it might be something other than PR like Psiorious that never really goes away. Even though I seen 3 DR and they said its PR they just looked for a second than diagnosed me with out taking the time out to really make sure its not nothing underline like Psriousis or a fungus.. Im so stressed.

The best way to tell if it's a fungus is to use anti-fungal cream that you can buy from any pharmacy. I thought mine was a fungus and used prescription strengh cream and quickly realized it was not a fungus. I'm a dark skinned female as well so I know how debilitating this could be for you. I was scared my PR was something other than that for the longest... I even thought skin cancer for a while, but it was PR which can manifest in diferent ways for different people, but it all boils down to TIME. It takes time to heal and will get worse before it gets better... but it gets better. That's the key thing to remember. If you have seen 3 DR's and they all diagnosed you with PR... I would put faith in that.

Stressing is not helping, although I know it's SO HARD not to stress, it really does make it worse. My doc prescribed Xanax for me during the last part of my PR outbreak and it helped to calm my nerves considerably. I had never taken it before and I still have well over half the bottle left, but it helped with the stress.

Make sure you're getting some SUN on your affected areas every day if you can.

Thank you I will put my faith in it. With you having dark skin did the spots clear up and did the rash go away completly without leaving marks? mine are spots and red rashs all over my body except my face so far..

There is a very slight discoloration where the most noticeable spots were, but they are still fading day by day. The spots on my arms, legs and thighs are nearly gone, and I can barely tell anything was there. The herald patch is like... a 360 degree difference. It was the biggest area affected so it's healed about 95%, and like I said, the fading process is still happening daily with me in the healing stages now. With me having darker skin I was afraid the spots would remain discolored, but they are fading.... and I think when it's finally finished I will barely see that anything was there before. That's what it looks like for me at leaset, and I'm a black female so that's saying a lot.

Oh, I did get some on my neck... like 5 in all, and are thankfully all gone!

The one thing that's hard to do is to not irrirate the affected areas which is hard to do... well, it was hard for me cause I sit in a chair mos of the day and my herald patch was like right there... so I could feel it rubbing against my shirt or a chair constantly, but I had to train myself to sit differently and not let my body get too hot... heat defintely aggravates it more.
