I had a cold that started 2 1/2 weeks ago..the cold went away after about a week, but my smell and taste were still gone. My smell has come back about 50%, but I only taste strong ingredients. I ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich today and it tasted like..well...nothing. I can smell foods, but once I try to eat them..nada. I do have one ear that is stopped which I'm told is normal after a cold, so I'm hoping that's the connection. I'm taking sudafed until the ear gets better, but worried about my taste. At what point should I talk to a doctor. If I can't taste in a couple days, that will be 3 weeks! gaaah! Anyone? :/

Hi non-named,
Sorry to hear your frustrations about not gaining your sense of smell and taste back. It actually takes a few days after your sinuses have cleared up for your taste and smell to slowly start to return. It seems that they are coming back (since you mentioned smell coming 50% back) however, it may just be coming back slowly.
Please keep us updated and let us know when you're able to taste and smell your favorite dish or flowers again!
