I am now 5 days late and have taken a prego test that came back negative. I have been under some stress the past month so I am wondering if that is why I am late. I have always been very exact on my due dates. Can i get pregnant from unprotected sex while on my period? Should I be concerned about having a bun in the oven?

Sweetheartcutie,

Although it is possible to get pregnant while on your period, it's not too common because MOST women do not ovulate while they're shedding their unfertilized egg.

The stress that you've mentioned can certainly be the cause of your late period and since you have tested 5 days after your missed period, this is probably the reason.

For future reference, remember to always use some form of birth control if you're not ready for children. Whether it is a condom or the pill (or any other form). If something happens while you're on birth control and you feel like the condom broke, there is a pill called Plan B One Step that is highly effective in preventing pregnancy if taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex and sold over the counter at drug stores. Plan B is an emergency contraceptive NOT a form of birth control so it should not be used as such.
