Hi Ladies,
I am 40 years old and going through a divorce. After one year of abstinence I had condom protected sex in June, and had my periods regularly after that. I had condom protected sex with the same man on August 14th and 15th. I had my period on August 27th, but nothing since then. It is now October 5, and I am getting worried. I should say that I was married 8 years and never used birth control, only became pregant 1x and miscarried. My periods are almost always every three weeks, and only 1x in the last yr have a went a whole month before starting again. I have had a tiny amt. a blood when I wipe and then it goes away and comes back a few days later. A little tiny, tiny bit of brown sometimes...I am talking miniscule. I am getting worried. I guess my question is...they say stress can cause missed periods, and I have been under a ton lately, but I have been under a ton before and never skipped periods. Is it possible to just affect you out of the blue? I know I need to take a test, but I'm just worried and needed to talk about.

To my knowledge, anemia and a high platelet count do not lead to a missed period. I searched the internet to answer your question and found no information to back a connection.

HI Maryann,
Thank you so much for your reply. I did take a home pregnancy test and it came out negative. I feel pretty sure that it should be accurate considering my last sexual encouter was 7 weeks ago. I would think by this time if I were pregnant it would read positive. Do you agree? I should maybe add that I was recently diagnosed as being anemic with a hemoglobin of 9.3...I'm not sure if this is slightly anemic, or severe, or in between...lol. I have been taking iron since Sept. 14th. I also have a high platelet count of 753. I'm only mentioning these things because I'm not sure if they can cause a missed period. I do feel crampy on and off like I am going to start, but ....nothing. Hmmmpphh...

Hi,
As the saying goes, " there is a first time for everything..." Emotional stress, such as going through a divorce, can cause a woman to miss a period. Another consideration is perimenopause. Many women realize that they are approaching perimenopause and menopause when their otherwise regular periods become irregular. You could take a home pregnancy test. hCG levels can first be detected by a blood test about 11 days after conception and about 12 - 14 days after conception by a urine test. This will give you peace of mind.
