I've been struggling with weight loss need some guidance on how to get the most out of my food and exercise. I've read a lot on the internet but the information is so overwhelming I'm having a hard time figuring out what will actually work. I don't know enough to be able to determine if a certain diet, like the Mayo Clinic Diet actually provides healthy ways to change your lifestyle for long term--like it claims. Are there certain things to look out for? I'm trying to loose around 80 pounds and I am running every second day for about 45 mins, I'm trying to run every day for a little bit now.

Anon, you've asked some good questions. First, fake diets claiming to be from the Mayo Clinic have been around for decades. They've advocated such things as eating bacon, grapefruit and cabbage soup. The real Mayo Clinic released a book in December 2009 which is divided into two phases. The first phase is focused on quick changes in eating habits to jump-start changes in your life. The second phase is focused not on diet but on building a healthy lifestyle program that includes a healthy diet. You can learn more here: http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/mayo-clinic-diet/MY01040
Whether you use this particular book, or another one, a healthy lifestyle is in your best long term interest. The EmpowHER Diet Center page listed below provides a wide range of information on diet plans and healthful eating. Good luck! Pat

That was the book I was viewing, the one with the two phases. So in a nutshell, that is the legit Mayo Clinic diet and would be a good plan to try? I'll also check on the empowher link too, thanks for the help!

Anon,
I saw this book in the bookstore and picked it up to leaf through it. I thought it was done very well and was easy to understand and easy to follow.
And even though it is in stores, I am going to also give you the link to Amazon.com, because you can scroll down to the customer reviews and read what real people think about the book:
