Q:

I suspect I have a skin cancer. I am seeing my GP next week. This is TOUGH, as I am a single, never married parent of a medically disabled child and I am out of work with NO insurance. Both my parents (and other family members) have had MAJOR skin cancers

non - melanomia. I have, without question a suspicious leision. I am 50, female, fair skin, red hair, used to sun bathe and use tanning bothes for long periods, but not at all in 15 years. My question.. Why does skin cancer ITCH?? This is driving me crazy. In the last 5 weeks, my questionable spot (that I had checked out about 5 years ago.. has gone from a flat lite red spot to a hard, ITCHY, lump that has bled some and is very scaley. Why does it itch? And why such a sudden change? There is now like a knot and you can feel the knot from running your hand over my slacks, This is in the mid range of my upper thigh.
Thanks so much for you answer! Sincerely -

Hi Anonymous,

Thank you for your question. I am not sure I can answer as to why some people may have certain reactions while others do not have itching at all. Every individual is different and each skin cancer can react in a different way. You should request additional information from your treating physician that may be helpful to answer your specific question as skin cancers can be caused by several different things.

Good luck,

Missie
