Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Thank you for reaching out to our community with your question.

I am not familiar with this pill, but can provide you with general available information.

First I must ask, why do you want to stop your period? Are you referring to a current period that has already started or are you asking if you can take Norgest to stop having a period each month?

Why did your physician prescribe Norgest? Did you speak with your gynecologist about wanting to stop your period?

Norgest 5 mg (Norethisterone) tablets belong to a group of medicines called progestogens. These work by acting on receptors in the body to mimic or exaggerate the effects of the natural hormone, progesterone.

Norethisterone tablets may be used to treat:
or prevent abnormal or unexpected bleeding from the uterus
the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome which occur before a period including breast pain, headache, migraine, water retention and mood disturbances
painful or heavy periods
endometriosis
certain types of breast cancer.

The tablets can also be used to stop periods.

Anonymous, when did your gynecologist tell you to start taking the pills? Have you taken any yet?

Please contact your gynecologist about this.
