Hi Carla,
If you are concerned about getting pregnant, I personally would suggest using a backup method regularly, especially since you forgot twice in one week. Better safe than sorry, right? If you forget regularly, using a backup method will ensure no accidents. Or you can contact your doctor about finding a different method of birth control that is easier to remember. As you know, your birth control is only as effective as how well you take it.

Hey i have been on birth control and the beginning of my new pack i realized my doctor changed my Tri-Nessa birth control to Orthro tri cyclen Lo. I began to take the pills but forgot to take them for about 3 to 4 days ..as soon as i remembered i began with them again. My doctor has me on the continuous cycle which is where i dont have my menstrual for 3 months and on the third month i take the Non-active pills, then repeat again for three months. But i am spotting right now but it looks like old blood. Is this beacause i forgot to take those few pills?

Yes, missing pills can cause break through bleeding and the spotting is normal.

Hi, I missed a pill towards the end of the 1st week of my second strip back to back, I took another as soon as I realised with the one that was due at that time. However I dont know if I missed fridays or saturdays so I was either 12 hours or 24 hours late with the double up pill. Me and my boyfriend had sex in this time, I was just wondering what risk is there that I could become pregnant??

Thank you for finding EmpowHER. Please read the above articles (posted in my comment right above yours) for more information about missing birth control and making it up. Make sure to use a back-up method of birth control (condom, spermicide, and/or withdrawal) at least for the remainder of this week to ensure she will not risk unwanted pregnancy.
Good luck!

Hi, I just wanna ask because I am unsure about my situation as I think I didn't read any similar cases as mine. I'm currently on the pills and it's the 3rd week, I missed a pill on the Saturday, but I took both pills on Sunday. Then I had unprotected sex on Monday and Tuesday, but with pills taken on the right timing. Will I have a chance of getting pregnant? Because I heard missing pills on the 3rd week is kind of risky, but I have been on pills for 3~4 months. :(

Hi Anonymous,
Thanks for your question and for finding EmpowHER. Anytime you forget to take your pills and have to make them up, you run a slight risk of getting pregnant. That being said, you did what you were supposed to when you forgot to take it. You should be OK. When you are on your pills, it's not considered unprotected sex. If you are really concerned about getting pregnant, you may want to use a backup method (condom, spermicide, withdrawal). Especially when you forget, a backup method can keep you from having anxiety about getting pregnant.

Good luck and let us know how you're doing.
