Hi all
I need some advice- my situation seems so strange. I forgot to take a few of my birth control pills. I'm on Yasmin. So I started a withdrawal bleed, quite a heavy one that lasted 5 days. Went to my doc was given antibiotics to be taken explained my period situation (started taking my pill to end period after 4 days) she suggested I came off them so I started bleeding again! My period lasted for almost 2 weeks in total. From the 13 of oct to the 27th October 2010.

By the evening of 27th oct period had completely stopped and my husband and I had intercourse and he ejaculated inside me.the same happened right up until the 30th of october. We continuously had unprotected sex because I thought its a safe non fertile time on the 31st we had protected sex and on the 3rd of Nov 2010 unprotected sex again.

I don't feel pregnant like some women say they do but at least a half a dozen people have asked me if I was pregnant out of the blue!I haven't put on an ounce of weight.my hair is looking thicker and some say I'm glowing feel very tired but period hasn't been missed yet. Can I be preggers?

Thanks so much

Caroline

I had taken the previous months pills and once they were finished, I didn't have my next months pack so I went a week without taking any birth control and my husband and I had unprotected sex that entire week. Come to find out later I was supposidly ovulating 10/4 - 10/8 and I didn't start my pills again until the day of ovulation which was 10/7 (acccording to the ovulation calendar) COULD I be pregnant? What's the chance of me being pregnant if I've been on birth control for a while now, but slipped up that one week?

Hi anonymous,
Anytime you have unprotected six and skip birth control pills, you run the risk of getting pregnant. Every cycle is independent and requires you to continue to take the pill to make sure ovulation doesn't occur. The likelihood that you ovulated is hard to say 1) because I'm not a doctor, and 2) everyone is different. It seems if you started taking your pills on 10/7, and you have been taking them regularly, then you should know in a day or so if you are getting your period. If you don't get it, you can take a pregnancy test. The pill doesn't have any bearing on the test results.
Hope that all makes sense. Good luck and let us know how you are doing.

Is it normal to experience tingling breats, slightly tender with liquid that comes out upon squeezing the nipple, and constant cramping? I thought I could be pregnant, but took a test and it said it was negative. Should I test again or am I experiencing a hormone imbalance? I've never had any cramps or breasts problems after my period. Also, my period didn't seem like a normal period, it was exteremly lighter than usual with brown blood and only lasted four days. What's going on!?

Thanks for your time - Colorado

In September I started my period 9/23/10 which according to the ovulation calculator, I would be ovulating 10/4/10 - 10/8/10. When my bc pack was finished for the month of September, I didn't start my next pack until 10/7/10 and had unprotected sex with my husband everyday during that time (9/30-10/6 not on the pill). Before my period I had white discharge for a couple weeks. The month of October, my period (or I thought it was my period) started around the same time (3 days into the last week of the pills) BUT it flowed somewhat regular the first day, but with brown discharge/blood and then after that it was spotting still with the brown blood/discharge. My period only lasted 4 days instead of 7 and was not nearly as heavy as it usually is. Could I have experienced implantation bleeding? If I were to have conceived around 10/6/10 I would be around 4 weeks pregnant. I took a pregnancy test yesterday and it came out negative. Was it too soon? I am still having some mild cramping even after my period which is again not normal for me. ANY IDEAS OF WHAT MIGHT BE GOING ON, OR AM I BEING PARANOID?

Also, before I started taking my vitamins again such as fish oil, etc. I was craving watermelon EVERYDAY all day. I even woke up at 4am one time and wanted watermelon before I could go back to bed.

Thank you for your time.

Hello,

I'm sexually active, on the pill and my period started typically on time (sometime during the last week of my pills). My period this month though was unusually VERY light, lasted only four days and there was some brown blood too.

I had a 5 day time period of taking NO pills between the previous month of pills and when I started this months pills (I had just moved and didn't have any bc packs on hand). Anyway, in the 5 days time I still had unprotected sex (with my husband) but didn't think anything of it since I have been on bc for years now.

I can't think of anything that would cause my period to be this light, short and have the brown blood too. Could I be pregnant or is there another cause for this?

THANK you for your time in reading my complicated question haha.

Hi Anonymous,
Thanks for your question and for finding EmpowHER.
A period (as I'm sure you know) generally is indication you are not pregnant--it can change from month to month, depending on illness, diet, exercise, stress, hormones, etc. However, if you have concern, you always can take a home pregnancy test to calm any fears.
Each menstrual cycle is independent, and being on the pill for years has no bearing on the current cycle you are on. The daily influx of hormones is what keeps your body from ovulating, so you can't get pregnant. When you forget to take your pill and don't use a backup method, you put yourself at risk for unwanted pregnancy. Sounds like you lucked out this time, but in the future, if you're not wanting to have children, either keep taking those pills, or use a backup method.
Good luck and let us know how you're doing.

Hi,

I've had a crazy year, and I wonder if it's catching up to me. My husband deployed in January of this year. In February, figuring I was pretty safe, I decided to give the BC a break since I didn't need it. I figured pumping my body full of hormones when it was unnecessary wouldn't do me any good. I had an odd period the two following months--pretty regular time-wise, but the flow was really off. It evened out until I started my pills up in mid-July, which I figured would be a good time since it would give me a month and a half to two months before my husband's return for the hormones to do their job again.

I should probably mention here that I do an extended plan using Desogen, so my "period" times, or withdrawl bleeding, are pretty much up to me.

I was doing fine until the second weekend in September, when I went on a two-day camping trip with my daughter. It was a pretty hectic trip, and I forgot to take my pill in the morning Saturday and Sunday. I didn't realize until Sunday night, when I immediately took both. However, at the time I had no idea that there were actually directions about what to do with a missed pill in the info from the pharmacy. I just remembered my doctor saying to double up, so I only doubled up once. Then, the next weekend, which was also the weekend before my husband's return, I did the same stupid thing, only I didn't realize it until Monday, because I was so busy getting the house ready. Again I only doubled up on Monday. My husband and I don't use condoms, so the BC was about the only method we were relying on when he got back. We were pretty happy to see each other after eight months, and so we had multiple sexual encounters for the next five or six days. (He got back on Tuesday.) On Saturday of that next weekend, I forgot to take the pill until the evening, and did the same thing on Sunday. On Monday, I took my pill in the morning as usual, but then I started bleeding in the afternoon. I had NOT taken my placebo pills at all since restarting my pack--I was planning on maybe having a period toward the end of October. Instead, I had a period around the 28 Sep - 1 Oct, but I stopped it with my active pills after three days because my usual period lasts 5-7 days and I really wanted to enjoy the last few days off that I had taken for the express purpose of reacquainting with my husband.

Since he's been back, I've had the hardest time remembering to take the pill in the mornings on the weekend, when my schedule's normally a little crazy anyway. Usually I can manage to take the pill after my shower, no matter how late in the morning that is, but I've been remembering in the evenings only lately, which isn't a good time for me to switch to because I'm prone to forgetting night-time rituals. Since I'm on the extended pill plan, AND since I've been loopy about taking the pill since September apparently, is it possible that my breasts being sore, feeling a little sick to my stomach this morning and falling asleep hours earlier than usual for the last few weeks might mean I'm pregnant? I don't have a "withdrawl" bleeding to go by unless you count that one in late September, which was really unusual anyway. My body has been like clockwork since my teens, one reason why I was always happy about taking the monthly-withdrawl bleeding pill, but it was just too inconvenient to my life. Now I feel like my body is out of control, and even though I had a negative HP test this morning, I'm very worried. My hubby and I weren't planning on having any more kids.
