Any time you have unprotected sex you risk pregnancy, and taking your pills on and off and not every day means you are not protected. So you could be pregnant, but your hormones could also just be goofed up from not taking the pill as you should. You body only gets the hormones when you take the pill. When you miss a day, you change your hormone levels.
You can take a home pregnancy test once you miss a period. It's hard to say just what the issue is for sure without testing. You will definitely feel better if you take the pill every day instead of on and off.
Thanks for writing and good luck.

I also have a question. I have been on birth control for years. I take Yawning, and have been on it for a year or two. I start on Wednesdays (I start a new pack on Sunday's ). I forgot to take my birth control pill on the Friday of my second week and had sex that night. I however took the pill at 8 am the next morning. I looked at my ovulation chart and it said I was ovulating two days prior. I have lost much sleep and have spent hours worrying about this. Can you please tell me what you think my chances are of pregnancy. Thank you

If you usually are good about remembering to take your pill, taking one late shouldn't put you at a huge risk for getting pregnant. The pill is designed to make you not ovulate. Here is an article that explains how it all works:

Thank toiling for your advice. I have still been worried about this. Is it true that you can indeed delay your period over stressing about it? Or is this not true when on the pill? I read the yawning pill packet and I did just as it instructed to do when missing a pill. It said that when taking Yawning and missing one pill you should still be protected. Do you think this is true? I believe in my heart I will be ok, I have Just stressed myself out!

Yes. If you are on birth control pills, and you take them as directed every day, you can have all the sex you want and are something like 99% protected from becoming pregnant. It does not protect against sexually transmitted disease, though. For that you need condoms as well.

Hi Anonymous,
October 7, 2010 - 11:20amThanks for your comment. If you are on the pill, it's not considered unprotected sex. The pill is supposed to protect you from unwanted pregnancy. However as you have been missing some dosages, that puts you at risk for getting pregnant.
I wrote an article about missing birth control, please read it. I think it may help answer your questions:

Hey guys
October 4, 2010 - 6:49amI accidently missed my pill 5 days in a row at the very beginning of the second week then had unprotected sex on the 5th day. When I got home I realised I missed them and took them all at once.. Very stupid, got a bit sick. Is there a risk that I may be pregnant? That night I had sex though I bled the next day, not heavy but noticeably and had slight cramps. Does this mean anything

Hi Anonymous,
October 4, 2010 - 11:30amMissing so many pills does put you at an elevated risk for unwanted pregnancy. You may want to call your doctor. Most birth control pill inserts say that you should throw away your pack and start a new one immediately. Your doctor also can corroborate this--it may we worth a call to discuss it with the nurse. They also may suggest taking PlanB if it still is within 48 hrs. of unprotected sex. If you are forgetting to take your pill regularly, you may want to get in the habit of using a back up method and/or switch to a different method that will be easier for you to remember. It may help you to remember to take your pill if you associate it with something you do every day at about the same time (ex., brushing your teeth).
Here is an article on forgetting to take birth control that may help:
