Hi Colorado
It's really hard to say for sure, but if you've been on the pill for a while and missing in between like this, my hunch would be that you hormones are all a little goofed up now from the starting and stopping and that's why you are having some light bleeding. If you have just started the pill and been this intermittent, then I would say you may be pregnant. So it kind of depends on how long you've been on the pill steadily.
Good luck at the doctor, and thanks for writing.

Thank you for answering. I have been on the pill for more then 2 years now, but haven't been this inconsistent. I was bleeding VERY lightly for about 4 days and then started REALLY heavily. I just had my peiord on 6/6/10 and now I am bleeding again from being 2 days behind on my first week of my bc pills. I am assuming I'm not preggos because I am bleeding heavily now like a normal period... I probably shouldn't even bother with a pregnancy test, correct?

Thanks so much you were right she got it first thing this morning! I didn't think it was too high risk either cause I know you don't ovulate until the middle of the month, (if you are not on the pill), and it was not even close to then so I was pretty sure she couldn't have released any eggs then.

Hi Anon:
I wouldn't worry too much yet. First, the worry will make her later, and secondly since she had been on the pill for a year and it was at the end of her period, while pregnancy is still a possibility it is not very likely because of the timing.
I know it is easy to say don't worry, but I do not think you are in a high risk situation. Thanks for writing and good luck.

My girlfriend and I had unprotected sex two days after she finished her period. She has been on the pill for over a year and never completely missed any pills. She, however missed the first two pills after she finished that period. So we had sex on the second day after she was done, and missed her second pill. She took her first pill on her third day, and hasn't missed any since. However she is one day late now and we are beginning to worry..

Hi Anonymous
The answer to your question is yes. When you start the pill, you should use a backup method of birth control for a while until the hormones take effect, and that is assuming you keep taking the pill. It is not instantaneous. Because you only took a few pills, you probably got little to no protection at all from them.
Good luck to you.

Hi, my name is Alexandria. I have been taking Apri birth control. It says 0.15mg/0.03mg. It is a 28 day. I have taken it for two years now and before that i took Yaz. Anyway, i missed my pill at the beginning of the second week which was Friday night so I took it on Saturday morning to make up for it. Today is now Monday and my boyfriend and I started to have sex without a condom but it was only for like 20 seconds and then we realized how stupid it was to do it without a condom. Now I'm scared that I could be pregnant though because I missed a pill and because of precum. Help? Should I get the emergency?

Hi Alexandria
Any time you have unprotected sex you risk pregnancy, however, having been on the pill for that long and taking the pill the next morning should not really cause a gap in protection. While no one can say for sure, my inclination is that you will be safe and fine. In your position, I would not worry about emergency contraception.
Thanks for visiting the site and good luck.

Hi Skye,
There are many ovulation disorders. Have you been diagnosed with one? Which one?
The purpose of the Pill is to control the possibility of pregnancy and with the little window of opportunity for ovulation, this may not be the best solution. Have you spoke with your physician about fertility possibilities?
Here is a website that may help you with the different types of fertility treatments available. http://www.advancedfertility.com/anovulat.htm.
