Anon,
I'm sorry, but there just isn't any way for us to know that. It depends on where you are in the cycle of pills, whether you ovulated and whether you made up the pill when you remembered. Did you take two pills when you realized you had missed one?

Hi I am on ortho tri cyclen and have been on it for 2 years now. Last month on week 3 of my pills I forget to take the last 3 pills of week 3, and never made those up. I then had my period and then forget to take the first pill of my new pack and then the next day I just took one but, days later remembered and took two for the one I missed. I had unprotected sex after my period was over but, I hadn't started taking the new pack of pills yet. I looked it up and found that this is bad because instead of having a seven day interval I had a 11 day interval and had unprotected sex after the seven day interval should have been done by then. What are my chances of being pregnant? I am on the last week of this pack and will find out next week if i get my period or not. I didn't know if I should stop taking my pills since I could be pregnant so, I have kept taking them.

Hi, Anon,
Don't stop taking your pills. Most recommendations I found on the web were for women to stop taking the pills only if they KNOW they are pregnant. But if you aren't pregnant and you stop taking the pills, you will be affecting your hormones and it will probably be another cycle or two before you get regular again.
As I read your question, here's what is going on:
Days 19, 20 and 21 you forgot to take your pills
You then had a period, so we start over at day 1
--had unprotected sex in here--
Day 8, forgot pill
Day 9, took one pill
Day 10 or 11 - remembered, took two pills and got caught up.
The question is whether you ovulated, and it's impossible to know that. Most women on 28-day cycles ovulate about Day 13-14. Your unprotected sex was before that time, but sperm can live in our bodies for 48-72 hours. So there was indeed a chance. And in fact, the most common way that women get pregnant while taking the pill is by starting late.
Take a pregnancy test if your period doesn't come right away, or call the doctor's office and talk to the nurse for her or his best advice, OK? And try not to stress too much until then. I know it's nerve-wracking, but there's not a lot you can do except wait it out.

Hi everyone. I have a question. I am taking Quasense which is generic for seasonale. It is the kind of bc that you only have 4 periods a year. I have been on this for a while now. I just recently had something happen that has never happened before. I LOST one of my pills. I went to pop it out and lost it. I searched for 2 hours with no luck. I was starting a new pack after having my "pill period" and it was Thursday of the first week. I assumed I would need to take the next day's pills and miss it at the end, but the pharmacist I called disagreed. ( I could not call my doctor office it was too late) The pharmacist advised that I skip the pill altogether and resume the next day. She said use backup for the remainder of that first pack (not the whole 3 months, just the first pack of that 91 day supply).. I thought this was a little excessive. Per the package directions it says to use back up for 7 days. I am saying this since I did not have a missed pill to take so I went with the advise of if you miss 3 or more do not take this pills and use protection for 7 days. I used protection for 2 weeks to be on the safe side. I had sex this past Saturday night. I am still very worried that I could be pregnant. I only missed one pill and have been taken my pills religiously since then. I am still not sure why even when you start taking bc the docs will tell you use protection for a month when the package says only 7 days... do you think I am okay. I am married, but I had many complications with my first pregnancy and would be scared to death to go through that again. Any help would be appreciated!

Hi, Lilbit,
I'm sorry you got conflicting information at a time when you needed good information and fast! But it seems to me that you would be safe from pregnancy by using backup for two weeks, since you missed only one pill. Of course there's no way to know for sure until the end of your pack.
Here's what the Seasonale information says on drugs.com about missing a dose. Of course, you are different here since you lost a pill. But they don't even recommend using backup birth control until a woman has missed two pills. And then they recommend for 7 days only:
What happens if I miss a dose?
Missing a pill increases your risk of becoming pregnant.
If you miss one "active" pill, take two pills on the day that you remember. Then take one pill per day for the rest of the pack.
If you miss two "active" pills in a row, take two pills per day for two days in a row. Then take one pill per day for the rest of the pack. Use back-up birth control for at least 7 days following the missed pills.
If you miss three "active" pills in a row, do not take the missed pills. Continue taking 1 pill per day on schedule according to the pill package and leave the missed pills in the package. You may have some bleeding or spotting if you miss three pills in a row. Use back-up birth control for at least the next 7 days.
If you miss any reminder pills, throw them away and keep taking one pill per day until the pack is empty. You do not need back-up birth control if you miss a reminder pill. If your period does not start while you are taking the reminder pills, call your doctor because you might be pregnant.
Does this help you?

On a side note.. I did call the doc's office to ask their opinion and they told me I should have went ahead and took the next day pills and miss the pill at the end.. I guess I will know what to do if this ever happens again.

Mkay I am recently taking birth control. I've not had sex. But want to. I take it every night at 11:55pm. Can I have sex in like the morning and afternoon with out getting pregnant? My other question was can he ejaculate inside me with out getting pregnant?
March 23, 2010 - 7:46amThis Comment
Hi, Anon, and thank you for writing!
Yes, if you are taking your birth control pill at the same time every day (or night), you are protected all the time, all 24 hours of the day. You could have sex morning, afternoon or night and be protected, and yes, he can ejaculate inside you without you getting pregnant.
That's what happens in 99% of the cases. One or two out of every 100 women WILL get pregnant while they are still taking the pill, but that's a pretty small number.
The pill does not protect you from sexually transmitted diseases, however -- just pregnancy. If you have any doubts at all about the sexual history of someone you are going to have sex with, you should make sure they also wear a condom. You can get STDs even when you are on the pill.
If you miss a pill, you should take two the next day -- take the one you missed as soon as you remember, and take that day's pill right on schedule.
Are there any more questions we can answer for you?
