Q:

Implantation bleeding or ovulation bleeding?

I had spotting last night and early this morning. I usually have a 30-32 day cycle. My first day of my last period was Sept 29 and I had this rubbing incident with my boyfriend on Oct 4 (6th day of my menstrual cycle). We were also sure that he did not ejaculate near my vagina. So, what could be the possible cause of this bleeding?

Hi Anon and thanks for your question.

Implantation bleeding or spotting happens shortly after a fertilized egg is implanted into the lining of the uterus.

Implantation bleeding usually takes place about nine days after fertilization and ovulation, but can happen between 6-12 days after conception/ovulation.

If the "rubbing incident" which took place 5 days after the end of your period included the potential for his sperm to enter your vagina then there is a slight chance that fertilization occurred and you may want to take a pregnancy test to know for sure. If you are confident that there is no way that any of his sperm entered your vagina then you may be having ovulation bleeding.

While a normal cycle is considered anywhere between 21 and 35 days, the average is about 28 days. Ovulation occurs mid month, so this averages around day 14 of the month, but can occur several days before and after.

Hope that helps,

Pam
