Shanterria,

The original question was posted over a month ago, but I am posting this for future reference.

It is possible to have a period even during pregnancy. Whether it is benign bleeding, threatened miscarriage, or an actual miscarriage. With 15 positive urine tests and another positive at the doctor's I think it is time to see an OB/GYN even though your last one's were negative. The reason why I say this is because it is possible that you may have miscarried and not realized it-- any remnants left inside you are potentially hazardous to you and you need to be physically examined by an OB/GYN.

Please let us know how you are doing.

Hi, Shanterria. Welcome! And thank you for your question!

I'm sorry you're going through all this. It doesn't sound like much fun. May I ask why you continued to take so many pregnancy tests after the first one was positive? I know that's a lot of time and money. Were you surprised that they were positive?

Here's what I'm wondering. I'm wondering if it's possible that you had a pregnancy, which is why your tests came out positive, but then you miscarried it (which is when you thought you were having a period). Is that possible?

Fake positive results are pretty rare. It's much more common to get fake negative results. A home pregnancy test is testing for the presence of a hormone called HCG, which is a hormone only present in your body when you are pregnant.

If we are very early in pregnancy and don't have enough HCG built up yet, it's possible for a test to not detect it and give us a false negative. But it's quite rare for the test to sense any HCG if a woman is not pregnant.

Do you have a gynecologist? It seems like it might be time for an exam with her or him, asking about your irregular period and about your recent experience with the pregnancy tests.
