I have a large vein that poops out the side of my neck on the (L), and it poops out more when I do simple things, but expescially, when I strain to pick up something, wash clothes on my hand, bend over to tie my tennis, when I try to speak louder, then my voice gets hoarse like I'm straining (I use to sing, but can't anymore), and a pounding headache accompany it, with veins pooping out all over the top of my head/face and it times, my face swells when this is happening. I've gone to the MD, and they have ran tests like CT scans, MRI's on my brain, but it shows no tumor. These episodes happens everyday and it began right after I finished chemo for colon cancer. I also have a porta-cath still in place for a few months, and/or until I'm totally clear of he cancer and won't need any more chemo. I'm wondering if that porta-cath could be causing these issues it's n the (L) side of my upper chest. My doctors are about to begin new tests, because the headaches are driving me crazy and I need to know why they are, because at times, I feel dizzy. and I'm afraid something going to happen if they don't get to the bottom of this. Sometimes I get the headaches when I'm just lying down at night. But even when there's no headache, the vein in my (l) side of the neck, just sits there; you can see it all the time.

Do anyone know what could possibly be causng me these issues.

Hello kmimsrice,

Yours is a most interesting health situation. I do not think your symptoms stem from a problem with your thyroid gland.

The fact that your notice a bulging vein on the left side of your neck and you are having headaches makes me suspicious that the problem may be in your vascular system ( arteries and veins).

Maybe a carotid ultrasound is indicated. A carotid ultrasound examines the structure and function of the carotid arteries in your neck. This might be something you can discuss with your doctor.

Thank you so much,

I will definitely bring this up with my M. I have a friend who's a nurse and she has suggested the same thing.
