Hello, Anon.

Thank you for writing.

If the pain is severe and you cannot move easily or at all, see a doctor or other medical facility if urgent care is needed. It's likely a bad strain, but can also be a disc issue. We cannot know. You mention L5 s1. Do you have an existing back issue? A doctor can tell you more after an evaluation.

If the pain is not severe and you can move about, it's best to limit bed rest. Too much bed rest can slow the healing process and make your muscles weaker, tighter, and more painful.

Have you taken something for pain? If you can take them, anti-inflammatories, such as ibuprofen (generic, Advil, Nuprin, or Motrin) or naproxen (Aleve) work well. These medications not only help relieve your pain but also help reduce inflammation.

Try alternating ice and heat. Ice for swelling, heat to sooth.

I hope you feel better soon, Anon. I have had severe back pain, in my case, it was a bulging disc, so I know how painful back problems can be!
