Last month I missed my period but this month it's been longer and heavier than usual. My periods usually last about 5 days but this month it's going on 7 . I had took some meds for irritated bowel syndrome....could this be the reason that it has expanded or do I need to go to the doctors? I'm kinda a worry person when something seems wrong, so this is really worrying me

Guide

Hello mya,

Your current period may be lasting longer and the menstrual flow may be heavier than normal because you missed your period last month.

You did not mention the specific medications which you were taking to treat irritable bowel syndrome. Regardless, to my knowledge, medications prescribed for IBS do not affect the menstrual cycle.

Women who are perimenopausal can experience irregular menstrual cycles. Are you in your late 40s or 50s?

If your period continues beyond seven days, bleeding soaks through one or more sanitary pads or tampons every hour for several consecutive hours and you experiences tiredness, fatigue or shortness of breath, please consult your physician.
