Menstrual Problem

I'm 15 years old. I had my first period in my whole existence when I was 10 years old. I haven't talked to any doctors about my condition yet. Eversince I had my first ever period, my period is not heavy or average. Everyday, I only have a few drops on my napkin and my period can lasts a month. It was always like that until I became 13 years old. When I became 13 years old, that was the time that I had the "moderate" period but it also lasts a month. Now that I'm 15 yrs old, I also have "light" period for a week and then "moderate" period for a week too and "heavy" period for days but not in a week. I also have the "light" period to end my period. So it means, my period until now can last to a month. I know that my case is not normal because I have read books about a "normal teen's period" and I feel like I have problems. My mom knows about my case but haven't bring me to a doctor.

Hello shattermeaddict,

Welcome to the EmpowHER community. You are a very knowledgeable young woman and I admire you for research on the normal menstrual cycle.

You are spot on that your menstruation pattern is abnormal. As you know, the menstrual cycle is regulated by a delicate balance of hormones. Any factor that disrupts the production and secretions of the involved hormones will cause irregularities.

It is very important that your mother schedules an appointment for you to be evaluated by your pediatrician. Blood tests can be ordered to check hormone levels. Please have her read my reply.

Regards,
Maryann
