I didn't know i was pregnant or had a miscarriage until heard a friend of mine explaining her sythoms of miscarriage and realised that they were the same as mine.

I had fever and was so week for days and my stomach hurt so much that i kept on going into the loo after every 10 minutes. When i finally went to sleep, i woke up feeling that i wet my bed and rushed into the loo. When i sat down i felt a short sharp pain shoot through me but thought that i was having my period when i saw blood. On closer look, i noticed a brownish blood (size of a marble) with something that looked like roots attached to it. I never thought much of it but hearing a similar experince from my friend has made mi so miserable. I have never gone to the doctor and nor have i told my boyfriend. I am so scared of another miscarriage...

Does this affect my future comception????

Let mi know..

Hi Anonymous,

I'm sorry about your loss. Did you go to the doctor after this happened?

To be honest, missed miscarriages are more common than statistics give them credit for. Because most of the time they can be confused for a regular period or you may notice an irregular "clot" during the month-- they often go unreported. Chromosomal abnormalities are the most common type of cause for a miscarriage.

If this was in fact a miscarriage, a single occurrence will not affect your possibilities of conception in the future. It is when miscarriages occur often, also known as habitual or recurrent miscarriages, that your doctor will explore further into what may be causing the losses.

I share my miscarriage in 2007 with anyone who can relate. It was a chromosomal miscarriage at 10 weeks but I did not lose any tissue and therefore required a D&C procedure. In 2009 my son was born and in 2010 I gave birth to my daughter. Like me, millions of women past and present have had miscarriages and then have given birth to healthy, beautiful children. So don't get discouraged-- the odds are on your side!

Best,

Rosa

Thanks Rosa,

I have never gone to the doctor and nor have I told my boyfriend about it coz it was after 2 weeks that I realised that i actually had a miscarriage. It has been three years now and I still have not told him about and I feel so guilty about not telling him. Every single day I try to find the courage to tell him but I never seem to bring myself to do so. My boyfriend, did suspect and asked me when I started to get sick but I told him no coz at that stage I didn't have any discahrge as yet.

Should I tell him?

I just don't know how to.....

Hi Anon,

It's honestly up to you whether you decide to tell him or not. If it happened three years ago, do you think bringing it up now would put a strain in your relationship because you kept this from him for three years? What made you decide not to tell him when it happened? I just want you to know that although it is possible that you did have a miscarriage, since you were never seen by a doctor it was also never confirmed. So, if you do decide to tell him you can tell him that you suspect that you may have had a miscarriage given your symptoms. But like I said, this is a decision left to you.

Best,

Rosa
