My daughter has cirrhosis. She took Depo provera for 14 yrs. Any connection?

She also drank alcohol but has been sober for 3 years.

No, there have been no connections between liver damage and hormonal contraception. As you probably know, the liver detoxifies harmful substances from your body, and the hormones from birth control (depo provera, birth control pills, nuvaring, the patch, etc) do not cause harm to the liver.

Cirrhosis is caused by scar tissue that forms in your liver in response to damage that occurs repeatedly over many years. This damage can be caused by certain medical conditions, diseases, as well as chronic alcohol misuse. Is your daughter receiving treatment currently? It is wonderful that she has been sober for 3 years!
