Hi, Anon. This must feel very scary to you. Let's see if we can find some information for you that will help while we're waiting for women who have experienced this to add their posts.

Fibroids are benign growths -- not cancerous -- in the wall of the uterus. The tumors often grow into the uterine cavity. They can range from very small to eight or more inches across

A lot of women have fibroids -- about 20% to 30% of women of childbearing age, and as many as half of all women. Many don't even realize this.

Was six months ago the first time your fibroid was discovered? How did you find it? Have you been having pain or other symptoms?

Here is EmpowHer's encyclopedia entry on fibroids; it includes symptoms and treatments:

What has your doctor told you? Are you in a wait-and-see period, or will a decision be made soon as to whether to proceed with surgery? If so, has she or he suggested a specific kind of surgery?

Here are some EmpowHer links from other women who have written about their fibroids that might help you:

Here's an audio recording about fibroids from Dr. William H. Parker, a Clinical Professor at the UCLA School of Medicine and the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology chair at St. John's Hospital and Health Center:

And here's is a link to a list of several videos EmpowHer has in our library on fibroids and their treatments:

Please write back and let us know if this information helps. And if you have more questions, please tell us what your doctor is recommending and why you are worried. Fibroids are so common that many women don't even know they have them until they start having other symptoms.
