Q:

My menstrual Cycle has been cut short from 7-8 days to 4, WHY?

What would make my cycle lighter and last shorter days? I am not on birth control, but my menstrual cycles seem to be getting lighter and lasting shorter periods. My cycles use to last 7-8 days, but this month and last they have been cut short. Looks like I stopped 3 days into the cycle last month and then started back the next day. And this month. I started a little earlier, instead of going 28 days with no period, I went 26 days. I was heavy the first two days and after that my cycle was sooo light that I began using the very thin padding. By the fourth or fifth day I had no cycle. What would be causing my menstrual cycle to be cut short? I know this time, when I stopped flowing early I felt as if I was going to start on my cycle which was weird because in actuality I should have still been on my cycle. I'm worried. Does anyone have any suggestions about what may be going on with me and why? Has anyone experience what I'm going through? Could I be pregnant? I took a EPT pregnancy test right after my cycle stopped and it tested negative. I don't feel pregnant, but I surely stay sleepy alot. I could sleep all day if I had the time to. I have heard that you can be pregnant when you are on your cycle. I have never had wrong pregnancy test results. I have also been a little nauseous, but usually at night and not so much morning.

I have had the same problem for about a year now. My cycle had reduced from 28 days to 24 days just since April of this year, and the flow is much heavier for the 3 days I have it. I wanted to be certain that I was not miscalculating, so I got an app on my iphone called P-Tracker lite. It is a free app that you tap a button when you start and tap one when you stop. It also allows you to enter symptoms (headache, nausea, tenderness, mood swings, etc) and has a built-in calendar that estimates when you are ovulating. I recommend something like this to help you track your cycle and remove the guesswork. Knowing an estimate of when you will be ovulating can also help if you are trying to get pregnant. I am 40 yrs old and not having any more children, but the app helps me a lot to communicate things to my doc without having to remember everything. I just open it and I have all the dates. Also, if something concerns me, I place it in the notes section to remind me to ask my doctor. Its all right there and helps reduce my anxiety. Hope this info helps someone.

Thank you for sharing! I think many women will agree that anything that can help us communicate easier with our doctors is helpful...for some reason, specific dates and symptoms seem to become difficult to remember of describe when siting in front of your doctor (especially if you are wearing nothing more than a large paper gown!).

You may just be having some hormonal fluctuations which is perfectly normal, but since it is freaking you out, make an appointment with your gynecologist for a checkup and some definitive answers.

It is true that some women may experience bleeding during a pregnancy, and if it is being routinely examined by a doctor, this can be normal.

It is not possible for women to have a true menstrual period during a pregnancy, however, and I question having "many friends" who bled during pregnancy, as it is rare and must be monitored. Many women find it easier to just say they are having their period, rather than describe in depth how they are having some bleeding or spotting during pregnancy.

I don't know about you, but when I was nursing I didn't have cycles. Many women do not have cycles when they are nursing in fact.
Since I was posted my cycle is still short. In fact it is just four days long rather than the usual 7-8 days. It's been like that since I posted on this site. I don't know why the change. I expected a change like that after having a baby or being pregnant, but it didn't happen like that. I have been tired, but that was when I had a lot to do and other things going on in my life. I would think that you are sleepy all the time because you're nursing and taking care of a baby. It will be Interesting to see what the doctor says.

I'm actually having a similar problem. I'm 28, I've had the same period cycle since I was 14. I had my first child a year ago, and i'm nursing. Long story short I just started having my period 6 months ago. And it seemed to be the same period cycle i've had my whole life. Anyways I just had a menstrol cycle but instead of bleeding for 8 days, I've only had a period for 2 days. That was it! bleeding for 2 days and nothing...I'm feeling sleepy all the time. Could I be pregnant? Can your menstrol cycle be cut short cause your pregnant? I've searched everywhere online, but couldn't find any answers. Preg. test read negative, but so did the test I took when I was pregnant with my daughter. Hope someone can help...Thanks

Thanks for answering my posting. I took three pregnancy test and all tested negative.
I do need to know what contraceptive is the best. I use to take Estrostep years back. When I mentioned it to a doctor, it was prescribe for me, but turns out it has a different name. Not I think it's name is abbreviated or something. Whatever the case, it wasn't the Estrostep I use to take. This birth control was awful. I consistently had headaches and therefore could barely think. I just didn't feel too hot with that contraceptive and it seem to kind of mess up my body and I only took it for a week or so, maybe even less. I hated it. Now I did hear, mainly from my partner, that there is a contraceptive that you can take once a month or every few months I think. I checked on that and that particular contraceptive was $100. I was already complaining about how high the other contraceptive was, which was $60, but $100, "Good Lord". But anyway, let me know which contraceptives are best. Thanks. :-)

I am the same with you guys. I usually get my period 5 days or 6. For this month of october and september, i have only been menstrating for 3 days. I have been pregnant before but my boyfriend at the time and still is wasnt ready for a baby and i wasnt either because i was 16 at the time. Now im 18 and my boyfriend still dont want a baby but i have been feeling nausea in the morning and sometimes at night. I pray that im not pregnant but i need some answers. I am too very tired throughout the whole day and dont feel like doing anything sometimes. I know these symptoms could be something else other than pregnancy, but i really need to know. September i was going to take a pregnancy test but i ended up getting my period but it only lasted for 3 days. Even my mother was like "How are you over it so soon?" If you guys have had answer please let me know
