I have not been on birth control since my son was born 5 years ago. I also have not had intercourse in all that time. My period is usually every 3 or 4 weeks. This month it came back in two weeks. Could starting a new relationship or stress cause this?

Hi Anon,
Many factors can affect the timing of your period. This may be caused by medical conditions or stress. Stress has an immense impact on our body and mind. It can either cause your period to come early or late, or sometimes not come at all.
Other factors that may contribute to changes in your period are caffeine, birth control pills, weight loss or gain, or any hormonal changes occurring in your body.
A woman's cycle tends to change over time with age and pregnancies (before and after) and it is not set in stone that it should be coming exactly every 4 weeks. If you continue to have very irregular periods, I would suggest a visit to your Primary care doctor.
