I only noticed this as I was washing myself in the shower. We all know what we feel like, and I suddenly noticed a bump inside my vaginal lips, right beside my vagina. I have looked at it with a mirror a number of times, it is surely my urethra, and it is enlarged...it actually looks like a teeny little penis head ! (a really teeny one). There is no pain, even when touching it, no burning or itching, no problems when I pee. I went to a male doctor, he didn't see any obvious problem, but he said he did feel a bump inside me, he thought may be a cyst ? I think he didn't have a clue actually, he is going to send me to a gynecologist, but it will take months to get an appointment. I am 48 years old, my period is starting to become irregular, and just as of a few days ago...I think I am starting to get hot flashes! I am very healthy, I have never had any real 'womens' problems, other than occasional itching or burning, but that has been usually after a hot weekend! lol. I have searched all over the internet for some answers, but I only find enlarged/swollen urethra issues that are associated with other symptoms. Has anyone any idea of what may be going on with me ? Thank you !

Over a year later, I havnt had sex, I'm in agony as the sides of the lump lie against the vaginal wall and they are now raw and bloodied. Been back to the Consultants twice and according to them I am normal, no lumps, nothing there.

I am now running urine. As soon as I pee I have to go again. I have seen 3 Consultants and they all said the same thing - nothing there. They are making me feel like a neurotic menopausal old woman. One Consultant said I have the best body he has ever seen on a 50 year old. Think he was that busy gawping at me he couldn't do his job.

I am really cross now as I can't have sex with my husband and he is so frightened to hurt me. It's so red and sore that even putting cream on it to heal it hurts never mind even thinking about anything else. I am so annoyed with the medical profession. They are useless with womens issues.

I know my own body and up until 2 years ago I had a full sex life every day and I had no lump, no soreness, nothing. It was amazing. I loved sex with my husband and now we don't even cuddle. I feel so alone and don't know where to go for help. I have to go for a review next month but I think it is a waste of time. It is making me so stressed thinking about it as I am shouting at them in my head.

I am sitting here now and just feel raw down there. At one point my clitoris was numb and I couldn't feel anything. I thought it was just the menopause but my periods have been stopped for 15 months. Every night in bed I am soaking with sweat and am told that you only sweat if you have an illness after the year is up. I am turning a deaf ear to that to try to keep my sanity but every so often I have a moment where I think it is a cancer lump. The mass has definitely grown and taken on several different shapes. I can't even see into my vagina any more. I'm at my wits end. Is there anyone on this thread that has had any satisfactory outcome?

What did they say it was?

First of all my Dr said it was a Bartholins cyst and I knew it couldn't be because it was on my urethral opening. He referred me to Gynaecology. I went back several times for review and saw 3 consultants who were brutal examining me. All said I was perfectly normal and there was no lump there. I insisted there was and that I could no longer have sex. They packed me off with a load of pessaries, stretching cones and pills. I don't take pills, couldn't abide the cones and the first night I inserted the pessary my temperature went up to 104. That went on for months until I stopped them. I honestly thought I was going to pop my clogs. I have been getting reiki since then and things are settling down but still feel burny down there and have had sex about twice in the last year which was not very comfortable. I seem to have no natural lubricant and before I had the opposite problem - too much if anything so it's a great shock to me. If I keep drinking lemon joice it seems to help with the redness. My periods have been stopped for a year now and I'm hoping I'm nearly out the other side. I'll keep you posted.

I am having this same problem.. it feels like its all going to fall out shen I go to use the bathroom. And the round opening has something real dark red inside it. The opening resembles the end of an olive in size where the olive has red in it.

Hi, I have something very similar. It's a three day weekend and I can't go to the clinic until next Tuesday. What you said it very on point with what's going on with me. I was wondering what your results where and what they had you do.

I should also include that the swelling goes from the back of my vagina to the outer front of the urethra opening. My urethra is so swollen I can't sit or stand for very long. No STD's , OB checked me out. Why isn't the cream Estrace helping?

I've been having this lump under my clitoris, inside my labia minora, above my vagina. It's not irritating, itchy nor discolored. Just that. Been sexually active for months now. About once a week. What is this? How wiill it be un-swollen?

Hello Anonymous,

You need to be examined by your gynecologist, who can determine what it is, the cause and recommend treatment.

Regards,
Maryann
