Hi everyone,

I've recently started having sex and i've been taking the pill a lot more seriously than I did before( i took it for bad skin and irregular periods). I took my last pill on thursday and got my period on sunday night. Should I begin the next pack on thursday or friday? It's friday right?

Also, I've had intercourse on friday saturday and sunday, and somehow i'm so worried my risks of getting pregnant are higher, even though I know that you're supposed to be protected on all 28 days. My pill is supposed to be very low on hormones, it's Jasminelle and I read somewhere that you can reduce the 7-day break to like a 5- day break on low dosage pills so you're sure you didn't ovulate during those 7 days...but what I like about th epill si taht you know when you're getting your period and it's on the same day every month, and I don't want this to change.

Is all this worrying unnecessary ?

Hi fisk-- thank you for posting your question.

If you take your last pill on thursday, your next pack should be started on Friday. Taking it on Thursday would be doubling up, which you don't want to do.

If you have been taking your birth control pills EXACTLY as prescribed, there should be no need to worry. Birth control pills are highly effective, 99.9% to be exact but NOTHING is 100% guaranteed. The majority of the time, when people end up pregnant while on the pill, it is because somewhere along the line they either missed a pill entirely, forgot one then doubled up, etc. Setting up a reminder on your phone or computer at the same time every day can help maintain the hormone levels from the pill at a constant rate.

Every once in a while there will be that lucky woman who did everything right and still managed to beat the pill and get pregnant. But this isn't reason to worry about having sex and getting pregnant. After all, the reason why you're taking the pill is to avoid the worrying, right?

Good Luck fisk. Continue to take your pills and no worries!
