Q:

Painful, abnormal period, two months in a row

Last month my period was a couple days late, that's not that strange for me. But when I did start, I had severe cramping, heavy flow, back pain, etc. (Also not that strange for me) but after that first day, I had very light spotting for the rest of the week. A light brown/red color. I have never had anything like that before. I took three HPT and they were all negative. Since then, I have had extreme breast tenderness, fatigue and random cramping. I started my period this month on time, but my cramps are worse than they have ever been. I have fatigue, nasuea, back pain, and the bleeding is not as heavy as it usually is my first few days. I am very concerned something else is going on, but do not know what it could be. I am 22 if that makes a difference. Tia !

Hi Anon,

Thank you for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community.

Anytime there is a change with the characteristic and symptoms of your menstrual cycle,  stress and/or your hormone could culprit.

Because you are 22 years old, pre-menopause is likely not the issue.

There are potential general reasons like stress or hormone imbalance, then there is knowing what's going on with you personally.  Discuss your symptoms with your doctor.

Be well,
