Is it really my period if it's 2 weeks early( 1/10)? It's not normal for me to get an early period. My last period started 6/9 and ended on 11/9 after a five day course of norethisterone. Could the medication be the one affecting my cycle? Should I go see a doctor or is this completely normal?

Hello Anonymous,
If you are convinced that you are pregnant and this is implantation bleeding, then you can either take another home pregnancy test or visit your gynecologist to have a blood pregnancy test ordered.
Either way, a doctor's appointment is necessary. If you are pregnant, you need to begin prenatal care. If you are not pregnant, you need to know why you are having intermittent vaginal bleeding.

Hello Anonymous,
Norethisterone is a man-made form of progesterone, a naturally occurring female sex hormone. It is referred to as a progestogen and it has a number of uses. Low doses are used to prevent pregnancy, or as hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Medium-strength tablets such as Primolut N® and Utovlan® are used to treat heavy periods (menorrhagia), and high-strength tablets are sometimes used in some female cancers such as breast cancer.
This drug appears to be prescribed in the UK and I am not familiar with it. I was unable to find any information that suggests it can shorten the menstrual cycle. I suggest you consult the physician who prescribed this drug.

Maryann

Thank you for you reply, Maryann. As far as I know, I MAY be pregnant. Well, I took a hpt 3 weeks ago and it came out negative. I'm not sure if it's a false negative, and I also read that bleeding in the middle of your cycle can be implantation bleeding.

Hi Anonymous,
Implantation bleeding does not look like a regular period. It is scanty, more like spotting than actually vaginal flow. Implantation bleeding normally occurs a week to a few days before you period would normally start.
I guess you will just have to wait and see.
