Dear Doctor, Please reply
My wife is 8 months pregnant and I want to know the rules of travelling by air during pregnancy.
Since I am planning to send her from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to back home India- Hyderabad; it is about 5hours 30minutes journey by air, please suggest me in this regard. Thanks a lot.

Hi Syed,
Thanks for your question and for finding EmpowHER.
I am not a doctor, but I can tell you from experience, that most doctors (and airlines) advise that a woman not fly within 6-8 weeks of delivering (34 or 36 weeks may be the cutoff). If your wife is currently at 32 weeks, she may be cutting it close. She may need to get a doctor's approval to fly in an airplane, and the airline may require it too. Call her doctor and ask what their requirements are, and you may want to call the airline to ask if they require a note also.
Since the flight will be over 5 hrs, it may be important for your wife to stretch her legs often to make sure to avoid complications from flying. Here is an article that explains that better:
Flying During Pregnancy
Good luck and let us know how else we may be able to help you.
