Hi, I am 25 yrs old. I am having a prolonged period of 14 days as of today. It is not very heavy but just a streak of blood, mostly thin, sometimes thick and sometimes a smal patch of blood. There is no recent ailment I can think of. Is it because of weather condition. I do not feel very weak or seldom any pain. I am just worried about the period I am having for the last 14 days. It never happened to me earlier. Is it normal?

Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for reaching out to us with concern regarding a prolonged menstrual period. This would be considered abnormal vaginal bleeding, specifically hypermenorrhea, which is bleeding for too long of a period.

The menstrual cycle is regulated by a precise balance of four hormones. Possible causes range from an endocrine or hormone disturbance to ovarian or endometrial polyps .

Thankfully the flow is light. But, please contact your gynecologist or primary care physician to determine the cause before it continues next month.

Regards,
Maryann
