Should I be concerned about a clicking sound in my shoulder?

Sometimes my shoulder makes a clicking sound when I move it around. There is no pain involved at all though. Should I be worried about this? What could be causing the clicking sound in my shoulder?

Hi Anon,

Thank you for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community!

Clicking noises are typically due to scar tissue formation, lack of stability in the joint, rubbing of inflamed tissues or degenerative changes. Have you ever had surgery or injured your shoulder?

Since you are not experiencing any pain, most likely it is not symptomatic. If it feels like it is popping out or going to pop out, then I would seek medical attention.

I wouldn't be too worried, unless it persists or starts giving you pain.

Did this answer your question?

Best,

Kristin
