Q:

Is there any update on the Pros and Cons of Bio Identical Hormones>

I am meeting with a health professional tomorrow re:bioidentical hormones.I am at my wit's end. At 50 years of age, I have not had a period in two years. My two severest symptoms that I have are lack of sleep and daytime fuzziness. I hve put on weigh, have no sex drive and no sense of clarity. I have read that once on bio identicals, a women;'s body has trouble getting off them, as their body stops producing hormones naturally. Is this true? Can I alter and conquer with just diet?

I want to enjoy my life and feel that standard medical practices are not giving patients or the issue the attention it deserves.
Any updated insights are appreciated

Hi Anon,

Welcome to EmpowHER.  The interest in a more natural approach to hormone therapy has focused attention on bioidentical hormones — hormones that are identical in molecular structure to the hormones women make in their bodies. They’re not found in this form in nature but are made, or synthesized, from a plant chemical extracted from yams and soy.

I've included some links that might be helpful in finding groups and support from other women going through menopause.
