Bronchial hyperresponsiveness (or other combinations with airway or hyperreactivity) is a state characterized by easily triggered bronchospasm (contraction of the bronchioles or small airways).  Conditions include asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and viral upper respiratory infections.
