After I had a second abnormal pap smear and second colopscopy, a biopsy was taken, which came back with moderate dysplasia, precancerous cells (a year ago the cells were mild). I was then referred to a specialist who recommended I have the LEEP procedure.
The gynecologist went through all the options; freezing the outer layer of my cervix (which I was told isn't the best option since they don't always know if they get all the abnormal cells), doing nothing and hoping the cells don't develop into cancer or having the LEEP procedure. Of course with those options, who wouldn't choose the LEEP procedure? I just want to get rid of the cells so I don't have to hear that "C" word again. I know that with every surgery, especially to the cervix, there are risks. I have found through research there can be complications later when trying to get pregnant and a high probability of miscarriages. It's hard to think about THAT since I am only in my mid-20's and no where close to thinking about having children, but I don't want to discount the risks involved in this procedure.
Is anyone familiar with this procedure and know all the repercussions? Are there any other options? I have done my research, but there are so many different sides, I want to hear from real women who have had experience with this issue.

I cannot recommend this procedure because my LEEP experience caused pudendal neuralgia and chronic pelvic pain .

Hi,
June 28, 2011 - 12:57pmWelcome to Empowher. I am sure that other women who have had a LEEP procedure will reply to you with posts of their personal experiences. I have no personal experience to share with you. Any information that I can provide will most likely be a repeat of what you have discovered with an internet search.
