What causes blood poisoning? How can someone get it and what can you watch for? I hear little about blood poisoning but it sounds serious. Any information will help.

Hi Lauren,

Septicemia or blood poisoning is when the body is fighting a severe infection that has spread to the bloodstream. Bacteria, viruses and fungi is mainly the cause. People with a low immune systems such as patients of AIDS or cancer, also treatment such as chemotherapy lowers the immune systems. Making these patients more prone to sepsis.
