Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to the EmpowHER community. I am so sorry to hear that you have been dealing with bacterial vaginosis for over ten years.

BV or bacterial vaginosis is an infection caused when too much of certain bacteria change the normal balance of bacteria in the vagina.
It is known that having a new sex partner or multiple sex partners and douching can upset the balance of bacteria in the vagina and put women at increased risk for getting BV.

This infection is treated with antibiotics.Unfortunately, even after treatment, BV can recur.

Having more than one sex partner or having a new sex partner, smoking, douching and not using condoms increase your risk of getting BV.

Regards,
Maryann
