What is going on with my body

I am a 24 yo healthy woman. I am in a very healthy monogomous relationship with my husband of 4 years and something recently happened that has me boggled. My last period was the 25th of January (start date). On the 18th of this month I noticed a little spotting (brown) when I wiped. No change in discharge. As the days have progressed the spotting has changed...it is more abundant now and has gone from light brown and watery to darker brown too brownish red to extremely dark brown with a red tinge every once in a while...I am very good at not overreacting and convincing myself I have sympotoms that I in reality do not, although I have been extremely hungry, thirsty, tired, and restless. I can' t sleep and when I do I have been having the worst dreams. I don't know if I am scaring myself or what. I have a 3 year old and I do not think this is pregnancy... I just am not sure what it is

Pbuys,

I certainly understand why you're wondering! Having a period or a cycle that is so unlike the rest of your cycles can be alarming, but it does happen to many women for no apparent reason.

Even before you mentioned that your mom had endometriosis, I was wondering if that was a possibility. (And by the way, it's possible to have perfect Pap smears for years and have endometriosis; I did.) What level of pain do you normally have cramps-wise with your period? Has the pain worsened over time?

pbuys,

Have you taken a pregnancy test? I'd recommend getting an early pregnancy test just in case your days are off by a couple of days. At this point since you've missed your period an early response pregnancy test would pick up on the HCG hormone and could ease your mind about what is going on. Spotting can be normal early on in pregnancy but if you do get a positive pregnancy test please see your doctor just to confirm that everything is okay.

Good Luck

That does help indeed, however I am not nor have ever been on any birth control or hormone supplements. I havent had any changes in medication or the environment around me. I have not lost weight and I have a normal level of stress. This is why Im so flabbergasted. I don't know what could be causing this. As this day has went on I have began to cramp a little more. The spotting has almost stopped and it is back to light brown and watery. Also this is weird and may not pertain but I got a nosebleed today , my first one ever and when I brushed my teeth my gums bled like crazy I don't know if this could be related to my main concern I just thought it was weird that none of these symptoms had ever happened to me before. My mother has endemetriosis but I have a recent pap that was perfect.

My period was due today and no show so far. I would love to hear from someone that has experienced something similar.

Hi,
Are you currently taking any type of hormonal contraception (such as birth control pills)? It is common for women to experience "breakthrough bleeding" in-between their periods, and can be completely normal.

Breakthrough bleeding, as well as an early period, could be possible explanations. Some periods may seem strange...they can be irregular, early/late, have different tinges of colored blood (pink, brown, red...these are all normal color variations), light/heavy flow, etc. If you have one period that is out-of-the-ordinary with no pain or discomfort, there is most likely nothing to worry about. You can, of course, call your GYN and talk with your doctor/nurse about your symptoms as well.

Women will have a few periods (or more) in their lifetime that are unusual/different, and can be for many reasons: new medication, recent illness, excess stress, dramatic weight loss, change in environment, anxiety, etc. Other reasons are unknown, and there is always a possibility of an underlying medical condition, but this is not something to put at the top of the list for one unusual period (depending on your family medical history).

A viable pregnancy does not have the symptom of bleeding, so this can most likely be ruled out (again...are you using any type of birth control?).

Let us know if you decide to call your doctor, or just wait until your next expected period begins. If your period begins around the time you expect it to, you may have just experienced some breakthrough bleeding or spotting. If this happens again, or you have any pain, discharge with odor or your period does not begin within a few weeks of the expected start date, you may want to call your doctor for a check up.

Does this help?

Pbuys,

Something went wrong, and your question didn't show up. Can you "reply" to this and let us know what you are asking about? We'd love to help.
